3 Days in Portland, Oregon

Portland, Oregon is a beautiful place to spend a few days, or more! There is always something that can entertain everyone in the family. Whether you are looking to entertain the children, the parents, or just yourself Portland is the place to be!

On your first day in the northwest, you could easily entertain yourself with hiking and other activities in the Columbia Gorge. In the northwest, hiking is a very popular activity. The Columbia Gorge is located just east of Portland and is filled with waterfalls, hiking trails, wind surfing and more! Taking interstate 84 east out of Portland will bring you to an old historic highway. Along the highway you will find many hiking trails like Horsetail falls, Oneonta falls, Multnomah falls, Angels Rest, and many more. There are hiking trails for beginners as well as avid hikers. Some trails are packed dirt and others are paved. As you walk along the trails you will be surrounded by the forest and friendly people walking by.

On the historic highway, you will also come across Crown Point which overlooks the Columbia river. Crown point is an excellent way to wind down a day of hiking. As the summer sun sets over the gorge you will see the orange and pink sunset reflecting off of the water. At the same time the trees, cliffs, and all other land will become dark as night falls.

Another popular activity that could take an entire day, or two, and is close to Portland is the Oregon Coast. The Pacific Ocean is located about two hours west of Portland. The most popular coastal destination in Oregon is Seaside. There are arcades, put-put golf courses, shopping centers, beach volleyball nets, swings, and much more all along the beach. The Oregon Coast Aquarium is also located in Seaside. It is a place that is fun for both adults and children.

On another day, you could spend time in Portland at the Oregon Zoo, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), and Saturday Market. Okay, that may be a little adventurous for one day but they are all good things to go do and experience!

The Oregon Zoo is home to more than 2,000 animals and each exhibit offers something new for the visitors to experience.

OMSI is a museum that is interactive for both kids and adults. The entire family will have a blast interacting together and enjoying time as a family while learning at the same time. There is also an IMAX theatre inside the museum where you could catch a movie!

Saturday market is home to many venders in the heart of downtown Portland. Here you will find delicious foods, hand made crafts, live entertainment, and more! One of the best parts of Saturday Market is that it is right next to the waterfront. After you are done shopping you can grab some food and eat it while watching the boats pass by on the river.

Whether you are hiking, watching animals, at the beach, or enjoying down town, Portland is a great place to visit or even live. There is never a dull moment and you will always be enjoying your time. Everywhere you go you will run into nice, friendly, and interesting people. I have traveled many places and Portland is definitely one of my favorites!
