Chocolate Temptation of Monroe, Wisconsin

Chocolate Temptation is located in the heart of downtown Monroe, Wisconsin. It has been open since 1995 and is headed by the Buol family. The Buol family members, in particular Scott, Robbyn, Gretchen, and Amy, all work together to create some of the most beautiful and tasty chocolates and truffles in all of Wisconsin. The family members also maintain a French-style café within the Chocolate Temptation store, which offers such items as fruit smoothies, sundaes, teas, lattes, cappuccinos, hot cocoa and coffee chillers. One can of course purchase signature Chocolate Temptation chocolates too, such as Gertles (pecans or cashews covered in caramel and chocolate), chocolate covered nuts and caramels and various fruit crème-filled delicacies.

Of note are Chocolate Temptation’s Ultimate Truffles, which are half-cone works-of-art made with a variety of fruit, nut, and liqueur-flavored fillings. Both the Ultimate Truffles and the chocolates may be ordered singly or by the box.

On a recent trip to Monroe, my friend and I stopped in at the Chocolate Temptation chocolate shop and café. The shop contained various glass and ironworks tables and chairs both inside and outside. At the very center of the shop stood a long glass counter filled with all kinds of chocolates. Shelves lined the walls, stacked with all manner of coffees, teas, chocolate lollipops, and candies.

We took a look at the drink and ice cream menu, which hung on a wall by the entryway. The menu itself was huge. For sundaes, there was a choice of the Gertle (hot fudge and caramel, and butter roasted pecans), Mocha Mudslide (mocha coffee ice cream, hot fudge, and a frosted brownie), Cookie Monster (hot fudge on cookie dough ice cream with a chocolate chip cookie), and German Chocolate (caramel, hot fudge, toasted coconut, and butter roasted pecans over double fudge brownie ice cream). There were a bunch of ice cream drinks too, like the Cappuccino Float (iced cappuccino with mocha coffee ice cream), Coffee Shake (espresso with Kona coffee ice cream), and the Brown Cow (a classic root beer float). And there were blender drinks too, like the Tea-Zing (frozen tea blended with fruit), Lemonade Slushie (frozen lemonade), and the C.T. Frozen Hot Chocolate (self explanatory).

I ordered the Lemon Blender with strawberry and my companion ordered a Cappachiller (blended ice coffee) with a shot of chocolate liquer. I also requested two types of chocolate from the counter: raspberry crème and dark chocolate cherry cordial.

We took our chocolates to our table. The staff initially provided us with two glasses of water with lemon. After a few minutes, the drinks arrived, served in their own shake glasses. The cold liquids quickly frosted up the glasses, adding a refreshing appeal to our drinks.

I took a sip of my Lemon/Strawberry Blender. It was smooth and tasty, but a bit too sweet. As I continued drinking it, I had to dilute it down with my water.

The Cappachiller was less sweet but not very smooth, tasting more like a regular coffee than the purported cappuccino it was advertised to be. Still, it wasn’t bad.

We bit into our chocolates and both preferred the dark chocolate cherry cordial to the raspberry crème. But, the chocolates were quite good. I could see coming back to Chocolate Temptation and buying a box of these delectable beauties.

Chocolate Temptation is certainly worth a visit if you’re in Monroe. Here is some additional information about the chocolate shop:
